SEO is still very important in 2025, but it’s not what many people think. There are so many myths that simply need to disappear, including these top fabrications you need to wipe clear from your mind:

·      Myth 1: You Don’t Need SEO In 2025

It’s easy to think with AI and searchGPT that websites simply don’t need SEO, but this is far from the truth. SEO has constantly evolved, and its uses do not expand beyond simply increasing your SERP visibility.

Investing in technical SEO solutions, for example, can help optimise your site for users. With a technical audit and SEO-focussed improvements, you can make your site a joy to use, hiccup-free, and fully accessible. White hat SEO can also help you develop quality content that engages your real audience and not just the algorithms.

A technical SEO service isn’t the only type of white hat SEO you will want to invest in, either. High quality backlinks and a robust backlink profile with many high-ranking sites pointing towards your domain is still great, because people still don’t 100% use or trust searchGPT. What’s more is that many of the top link building services work to get your brand in front of real audiences while also bolstering your brand’s reputation.

This means you can still work on improving SERP visibility with SEO since it offers benefits both for your search efforts as well as for bringing in more customers organically.

·      Myth 2: Backlink Volume is Key to High SERP Visibility

It’s a common myth that the most important factor of a backlink profile is the volume of backlinks. This is, admittedly, how it used to be – way, way back in the day. Today you need a wide range of high quality backlinks.

The good news is that high quality backlinks don’t immediately mean the only links that matter are from big publications. A small blog that follows webmaster guidelines can help flesh out your backlink profile, while high quality backlinks from major publications can act as the heroes.

The only thing you need to be particularly careful about is that your links don’t end up on spammy sites, in poorly written or produced content, or anywhere near malware or other malicious content. These are black hat SEO practices, and they can result in penalisations. Just have a look at the Black Hat SEO risks and horror stories that are out there, and you’ll start to see why it’s important to play nice with Google’s webmaster guidelines.

The good news is you can actually do something if your link is in a dangerous position. All you need is to learn how to disavow harmful backlinks or have your SEO expert do it for you.

·      Myth 3: Link Building is Dead

Another link-related myth is that link building is dead, but this simply isn’t true. White hat link building in its traditional form still works to help increase your visibility on the SERPs, which are still used to this day.

For best results, of course, focus on as niche a subject as possible. Small and local businesses should have their SEO expert focus on local SEO rather than generic. Niche industries need to hone in on their speciality.

Local SEO services, in particular, are going to play a huge role in the future. Even if people use searchGPT they will still be using it to find local businesses that suit their needs. You need these systems to know who you are, and those systems will use the same, if not a similar, method to search engines to determine results, which means you’ll want to invest in local SEO packages to increase your visibility across the board.

·      Myth 4: Long-Form Content is the Best Content

One of the bigger myths when it comes to creating quality content is that it has to be long if you want to increase SERP visibility. This isn’t true. Quality content is what matters, which is why the average word length of articles in #1 positions on Google is just 1500 words.  The average length of a blog article today? 1400 words.

In short, don’t worry about word length. You don’t need to hit certain word lengths to rank. What you need is tailored content. The content needs to be high-quality, informative, and something people want to actively reference whenever they have a point, they want to make themselves.

·      Myth 5: PPC Boosts Your SEO Rankings

Another common myth that needs to go away is that pay-per-click advertising campaigns work to boost your organic SERP visibility. This is simply not true, but there could be a correlation. A great PPC campaign, especially one managed by a marketing and SEO company that tackles both types of marketing campaigns for you, can work to:

  1. Optimise your website
  2. Generate buzz around your brand

A truly successful PPC campaign, for example, could skyrocket your business (if your brand goes trending). This, in turn, would increase the number of mentions and backlinks from normal users all the way to news sites. These links, in turn, can help increase your SERP visibility.

That’s why it’s so important to invest in a technical SEO service before you go big on a PPC campaign. SEO services can audit your existing website, improve it, and even optimise your landing pages and marketing approach to help increase your conversion rate.

·      Myth 6: Google’s Helpful Content Update Means All Content Needs to Improve

Google’s Helpful Content Update (HCU) is confusing, putting SEO professionals in a tizzy. The good news is that experts today believe that the HCUs are more driven by brand authority than content quality, so you don’t need to invest in creating white paper after white paper. This doesn’t mean you can get away with poor quality content, but that you need to work more on building up your brand or author awareness. The best way to do this is with an SEO consultancy who can offer a marketing and PR experts alongside their technical SEO specialist.

·      Myth 7: Moving Your Website Will Kill Your SEO Efforts

Another common myth is that you’re stuck with your domain and your web host forever unless you want to undo years of SEO effort. This isn’t necessarily true. With expert website migration services from a technical SEO expert, you can protect your search engine ranking while benefiting from the website migration move.
