Google Search Console is a valuable tool used by digital marketers wanting to boost their SEO efforts as it provides search results data. Naturally, this feature evolves over time to become more useful for the user, and that’s exactly what happened recently, with Google releasing a new update on August 5th 2024 called Recommendations. This update is all about insights – while Google Search Console already allowed users to see their site’s performance and visibility, this new update now means they receive targeted, personalised suggestions about improving it.

Understanding Google Search Console Recommendations

Google Search Console recommendations is a brand-new AI-powered tool that provides users with suggestions on actions they should take for site performance improvements. It’s worth noting these actionable SEO tips were already available in the form of data, but Google has made viewing them much more accessible, saving users time and energy.

Here are some examples of the recommendations given from the new update:

  • Reminder that you haven’t uploaded XML sitemap.
  • Recommendations of trending keywords.
  • Showing your indexing ad crawling errors.
  • Recommendations for fixing structured data.
  • Showing opportunities for internal linking.
  • Alerting you about a security problem.

As you can see, the recommendations given range from link building to website configuration tips. The goal here is for users to receive recommendations based on their unique requirements, with the overarching goals of improving page speed, identifying trends, content optimisation, and saving time.

It’s worth keeping in mind that the Google Search Console update is still in the experimental phase – it was only just released on August 5th, and some people have not yet received the update yet as Google is still rolling it out. It’s definitely promising, but it’s yet to be known exactly how useful it is in terms of SEO optimisations.

How to Access Recommendations

If you are one of the people who has received the GSC new feature, here’s how to access it:

Step 1: Start by logging into Google Search Console using your Google Account.

Step 2: Pick the website you want to analyse.

Step 3: Find the recommendations tag. This is in the menu on the left-hand side of Google Search Console. Once found, click on it.

Step 4: Look at the suggestions given to you. These suggestions are generated by AI using data from Google Search Console. You can look deeper into each suggestion, as each will provide details.

There – you now have full access to Google Search Console Recommendations. It’s as simple as that!

Is it Worth it? The Benefits

As mentioned, Google Search Console Recommendations is still an experimental feature. However, it’s definitely worth finding it if you’re a Google Search Console user, as it’s easy to access and readily available. It could even help you find better SEO opportunities. Here are some of the benefits:

It’s Straight from Google

The information is coming from Google. You are already wanting to follow Google’s guidelines to improve search presence, and this information can prove extremely helpful as it’s coming straight from the horse’s mouth! In this way, it’s more reliable.

The Data is More Accessible

The data might already have been accessible to those who were experienced in Google Search Console, but it is now a lot easier to access for the average user. You can get hold of useful information based on your own data in an instant, which saves a lot of time.

The Suggests are Unique to You

With Google Search Console Recommendations, all the suggestions it provides are entirely personal to you, based on your website’s specific data. As a result, this advice is far more valuable.

Improved Website Performance

Many of the suggestions revolve around your website performance; for example, you might receive advice about fixing mobile usability, security, structured data, and site speed issues. This website performance improvement can prove extremely useful for users wanting to boost their brand and SEO.

Boosted Search Engine Rankings

Finally, this new feature provides valuable insights that can help you boost your search engine rankings. You’ll receive genuinely helpful SEO strategies to climb to the top.

How to Get the Most Out of Recommendations

The benefits are clearly there. So, how do you make the most out of these Google Search Console Insights?

Check the Updates Regularly

The chances are the recommendations will change regularly, so it’s your job to check them frequently to see if anything has changed and whether you can improve. The good news is it’s super easy and fast to check the recommendations feature, so it won’t take too much time out of your day.

Monitor Results after Taking Advice on Board

After you have made any changes after reviewing recommendations, be sure to monitor your site’s performance. This will tell you whether (or not) the insights were valuable, and you can learn a lot from that going forward.

Pay Attention to the Keywords

One of the best new features is that recommendations provide trending keywords – pay attention to these and use them when necessary to boost your rankings.

Focus on the Right Recommendations

You will notice that you have several recommendations to work with. It might take a lot of time and energy to answer to them all, and it may not even be worth it. To make the most out of the new feature, focus on the recommendations that matter most to your website’s performance. Not every insight will be essential to your rankings! Over time, it will likely become easier to pick out the recommendations that actually make an impact (which is why monitoring the results is also so important).

Want to Improve Your SEO Strategy?

Google Search Console Recommendations is undeniably a useful update, but only time will tell how valuable it actually is. In the meantime, it’s worth using the new feature for personalised insights to make your site more visible on Google. Do you want other methods to boost your rankings?
