When learning the basics of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), you will have come across the importance of content, keywords, backlinks, etc. SEO is all about improving your company’s online visibility and ensuring that you rank high in the search engine results. And in today’s day and age – when everyone surfs the web looking for products and services – where your site ranks is imperative for your business’s success.

However, in order for your business to thrive in this modern age, you will also need to remember the importance of local SEO.

What is Local SEO?

Local SEO, or local business SEO, refers to optimising your site for a local audience, rather than a global one. The reason why local SEO is vital is because it makes you known to potential customers in your area and could offer convenience for those customers who prefer to shop instore rather than online. Essentially, it promotes your physical store, not just your online store (and why online shopping is still on a high, you shouldn’t deter from attracting walk-in customers, too!)

With all of this in mind, here are 3 ways to boost your local SEO.

  1. Create a Google My Business Account

In order to verify that you in fact own your business, and also confirm its location, you need to make an account for Google My Business. This will help you see exactly how your store performs in the search engine results. It also monitors how your store appears in Google Maps. It’s important that you fill out your profile on your Google My Business account, so include all the relevant information about your business, such as your opening hours, store address, phone number, etc. Also, make sure to include a good quality photo of your business!

  1. Encourage Customer Reviews

One of the best ways that you can showcase your local business is to encourage your regular customers to leave online reviews. A lot of consumers rely on customer reviews whenever they shop online, whether they are reviews for shops, restaurants or other services. This is because we are more likely to ask another person’s opinion if we are unsure about something. You can also respond to these reviews to show that you are a personable business owner who cares about their customers’ experiences.

Customer reviews are a great example of local business SEO, as they show what kind of business you run and can make the difference as to whether new customers visit your business.

  1. Hire Local SEO Services

If you think you might need help, it is always worth outsourcing to a team of experts. Hiring local SEO services to devise a successful marketing campaign for your business can free up your time, which leaves you more time to focus on more urgent areas of the business. These experts will tailor-make a local SEO strategy that fits your business image and targets your local audience.

SEO local tactics can go a long way to achieving the business growth you have been striving for, and it can all begin at home. Don’t assume that you have to go global in order to expand and remember the importance of local customers.
