There’s no denying it: Donald Trump is one of the most famous men in the world right now and definitely one of the most talked about. Every day, another headline delves into how his first 100 days in the Oval Office are going in his second term as President of the United States.

From holding peace talks with Russia and Ukraine, wanting to absorb Canada as the 51st state, to overhauling tariffs affecting global trade and cutting the Department of Education workforce, everything the 47th President of the United States does is a hotly discussed topic.

Donald Trump is certainly a divisive figure, on the tip of many tongues as his actions have impacted countries worldwide, but where in the UK is most obsessed with the controversial President? We explore key data below.

County

It may be surprising to learn that Surrey has been crowned the most Trump-obsessed county in the UK, according to new research. This was closely followed by Greater London and East Sussex, and Cornwall and Devon rounding off the top five.

Research carried out by our expert team using publicly available Google Trends data also found County Antrim, Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Somerset, and Oxfordshire were also in the top 10 of Trump-obsessed counties.

Region

Perhaps unsurprisingly, after considering the above data, the South East of England sees 57 towns in the top 200 towns regionally. However, Scotland follows this area in second place with 51 in total. The South West of England comes in third, with 30 towns obsessed with the President.

Towns

The tiny Essex town of Tollesbury has soared to the top of areas that are obsessed with Trump, followed by Niwbwrch in Anglesey and Lesmahagow in South Lanarkshire. These three locations have a combined population of under 8000.

Trump’s Popularity in the UK

While there are areas in the UK where Trump is an intriguing figure, this doesn’t necessarily translate into popularity. In fact, public opinion remains split. The latest Statista figures show that Trump’s popularity jumped to 34% in early 2025, but more recent data indicates this figure is now reducing, primarily after the tariff controversy. 64% of Brits now view the President unfavourably, with only 21% viewing him in a positive light.

When it comes to the President’s looming state visit to the UK, which is proposed to happen in July, the data is much closer. 46% are in favour of the visit, but 44% oppose it. International tension and the stock market tumbling after the tariffs introduced on April 2 have significantly contributed to shifting opinions, especially when you take into account that in the last 30 days, UK searches for “Trump Tariff List,” “Trump Tariffs Chart,” and “Liberation Day” have all risen by an astounding 5000%.

Interestingly, Trump’s popularity is nearly at a level with the UK’s own leaders, including Sir Keir Starmer, the current prime minister, and Nigel Farage, the reform leader. Brits view Starmer as 46% unfavourable and Farage as 49% unfavourable.

The Influence On May Local Elections

The local elections in the UK are fast approaching, and pressure is mounting on the main parties. While Labour won the last general election, the popularity of the party and its leader has significantly dropped. The Prime Minister has been accused of breaking over 100 promises since coming into power. On the other hand, it can be argued that Trump has kept to his promises. He stormed to victory with his key policies surrounding the economy, immigration, and guns, to name a few, and his first 100 days have shown he means business. People need to feel confident in their elected members of parliament and be shown evidence that those they vote for truly act on their word.

We further analysed key data that indicates local councillors could use the UK’s current “Trump Mania” to boost their chances in the local elections on May 1.

Why is this the case? Simply put, YouGov found that policies that UK voters place high importance on are also important to Trump’s government. These are, namely, the economy and immigration. There is speculation within the UK that party representatives can enjoy a winning edge in the election if they take a leaf out of Trump’s playbook. By appealing to the British public by cleverly using Trump’s popularity and ideas within the UK, councillors can connect more closely with residents in the area they are campaigning in.

Our co-founder and commercial director, Simon Brisk, explains in more detail:

“Search trends give a great window into public interest,” he said.

“In Trump’s case, it’s clear he is still dominating the news agenda while remaining somewhat in favour with the British public, more so than some of our own political leaders. With the political paradigm shifting across the US and the UK and local elections just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if UK councillors align their campaigns with Trump’s policies.

“The US has always had a strong influence on the UK. With Donald Trump back in the Oval Office, we wanted to see just how much influence he has on Britain. It’s compelling to see that some of the places that show the biggest interest in US politics are towns with very small populations and that the South of England is by far the most obsessed with Trump of any of the UK regions.”

Trump Mania shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon, especially as his moves continue to impact countries worldwide and make global headlines. His popularity and policies may also affect local elections in the UK. One thing is for sure, however: there’s no boring day with Trump sitting in the Oval Office.
