Earlier this month, Google announced that they are issuing a new spam update. At this time, Google has provided no specific detail about how this update to the algorithm works. Instead, they have directed the community to check out existing documentation regarding link spam and quality.

What Do We Expect To Happen?

Historically, these sorts of updates have been nothing to worry about – as long as a site has not been using aggressive backlinking tactics. These negative tactics include utilising PBNs (private blog networks) or article spinning.

If black hat techniques have not been used then we expect that the vast majority of sites will see no (or very, very minimal) impact as a result of Google’s link spam update. In no way do we expect this update to be the equivalent of the Panda update with regards to its impact on rankings.
