No business can afford to overlook the importance of good content marketing. It is imperative to the success of your business that you plan and implement a strong content marketing strategy, otherwise, you will find yourself struggling to stay afloat amongst the sea of competitors. But what exactly does content marketing involve, and why is it so vital?

To really understand content marketing, we will look at some examples while also illustrating the significance of SEO content and why this goes hand-in-hand with content marketing.

What is Content Marketing?

Put simply, content marketing is responsible for creating interest around a product or service. It is a strategic approach to marketing that prioritizes consistency and relevance.

Examples of content marketing include:

Businesses rely on content marketing to attract customers and put their products/services in the spotlight. It is about garnering attention and making sure that the content they put out is specifically tailored to their target audience. And this is where SEO comes into play.

Why is SEO important?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is all about relevance; it involves implementing keywords in your content, allowing customers to find your online content quicker, and helping your site rank higher in the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). You can provide excellent content, but without SEO, there is no guarantee that your audience will find it. If you feel that your business is underperforming, you can complete an SEO Audit on your site; this involves examining your site to see what is working and what needs tweaking. You may need to include more SEO-friendly page titles or descriptions; just make sure you don’t go overboard on the keywords.

Blogging is still one of the most popular forms of content marketing, as it allows businesses to regularly update their sites with fresh content, which doesn’t go unnoticed by Google or its customers. If your site hasn’t been updated for weeks or months, then this is a major disadvantage, as your business will no longer seem as relevant. Thus, your content needs to be consistent. Blog posts are also ideal for SEO, as you can include the relevant keywords that are more likely to drive traffic to your website.

Content Marketing vs. Traditional Marketing

content marketing lifecycle

Content marketing has now overtaken traditional marketing as the winning formula for various industries, and it’s not difficult to see why. Traditional marketing, which comes in forms such as TV advertisements, radio broadcasts, telemarketing, billboards, etc., can, at times, seem very ‘in your face’ and brash, which is why most people respond negatively. Content marketing, in comparison, seeks to communicate in a more human tone with its customers, instead of appearing too much like a salesman. Content marketing essentially sells itself without being too sales-y. It promotes quality over quantity, and with its use of SEO techniques, it ensures that it is appropriate for its customers instead of popping up as an annoying ad for an unwanted service.

Evolution of Content Marketing

Content marketing strategies are still evolving as modern technology continues to progress in leaps and bounds. For example, many businesses are now recognizing the importance of voice search SEO and are optimizing for voice search queries. This is because, instead of typing, more people are using voice assistants to help them with their online queries (think Alexa or Siri).  Voice search is easier and faster for a lot of people, and as Smartphones make up nearly half of internet traffic, your content needs to be mobile-friendly if you’re going to keep up. You also need to prioritize conversational content and make the language sound as natural as possible, especially when people are asking questions verbally.
