The more relevant backlinks pointing back to your website, the more powerful your site will be. If you want to quickly climb your way up the search engines and drive traffic to your site, you must develop a solid backlink profile.

However, doing so might seem easier said than done. With a little bit of research, you can get back links that will help you compete with your online rivals. Here’s how to build backlinks for your website.

What are Backlinks?

Before you learn about the best link building tactics, you might first need to learn what is a back link. Simply put, a back link is an external website that links back to yours. Many people might, therefore, refer to them as “external backlinks” or “inbound links.” They are essential for SEO, as they can add authority to your website. As a result, it signals to Google that your site is trustworthy and offers valuable content, meaning it is an effective way to increase your search visibility and ranking position.

Publish Niche Guest Posts on Third-Party Websites

Writing guest posts for third-party websites can be an effective way to get backlinks to your site. You must, however, focus on securing articles on only reputable websites within your niche. Never target a site with a lower domain authority level than your own, as it will offer very little value. You also should never write a guest post for the sole reason of gaining a backlink. Remember, interesting, relevant content can increase your brand recognition and traffic to your site.

Use Infographics to Build Links

Infographics are becoming a leading content marketing tactic for B2B companies, as they have the ability to go viral, so can help you master how to create backlinks. The better the infographic, the more likely people will post it on their website and send a backlink to your site. If you want to create an attractive infographic that could go viral, focus on:

  • An eye-catching design
  • Well-researched statistical data
  • Outreach to promote the infographic

Utilise Business Listings/Citations

Google highly values business listings/citations. In fact, they value them so much that they have made them an integral part of their local search algorithm. If you have yet to utilise their power, you should do so as soon as possible. After all, 50% of listing sites provide a DoFollow backlink, meaning they can help to increase your site’s trust and authority.

Editorial Backlinks

If you want to know how to get backlinks that will catapult your site up the search engines, focus on earning editorial backlinks. Google values this type of link more than any other, but acquiring them can be difficult. To do so, you must build a strong relationship with bloggers. You’ll also need to write exceptional content to gain natural backlinks from the sites. The link will only be viewed as editorial if an article needs to pass an editorial review, and you must have no access to the website.

Intelligently Distribute Your Anchor Text

A failure to effectively distribute your backlink anchor text can negatively affect your site’s ranking. What’s more, an aggressive anchor text placement can potentially lead to a penalty in the search engines. For this reason, you should follow the rule of thumb of keeping your exact match anchor under 1%, as the majority of your anchor text profile should feature naked or branded link anchors.
